WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre near Gloucester has undergone several phases of redevelopment over recent years, the latest is a new visitor attraction which will be unique in the UK. This new outdoor facility, being built by us, will comprise a 2,000 square meter walk-through aviary, allowing visitors to get a birds-eye view of the typical habitat British wetland species rely on, and give them a glimpse into local conservation.

Attached to the aviary will be a Living Wetland Theatre, which will offer the perfect open-air venue for free-flying demonstrations and the chance to get up-close to beautiful wetland birds, while presenters introduce the species on stage. Some of the birds will include magpie geese and spotted whistling ducks. The theatre will also offer a platform for educational workshops and specialist talks on conservation and natural history.

The project started in late May 2019 and will complete early 2020 to allow the WWT team to settle the birds into their new home before the exhibit opens fully in summer 2020. The project will call on our expertise in groundworks and required innovation for ground stabilisation.  We are also constructing a unique Aviary, whilst working in a live environment at one of the busiest tourist attractions in the UK.
